User guide
FAST channels: user guide
Set up a 24/7 channel from your Onveo library, run it on Google Cloud — our project or your own — and put it on your site.
Before you start
Published videos
Videos must be transcoded and published in Onveo. The channel streams their existing renditions — up to three bitrates.
Menu access
You need FAST / Playlist in the left menu. If you don't see it, ask your account admin or contact us to enable it.
For BYOC only
A Google Cloud project where you can enable APIs and create service accounts.

Run it
Start, stop, restart.
1. Make a playlist
- Open Playlists in the left menu and create a playlist.
- Add your videos and drag them into running order.
- Save. The channel plays the list from top to bottom and starts again at the end.
- Tip: use videos encoded with the same profile so transitions between programmes stay smooth.
2. Choose where the channel runs
- Onveo Cloud is the default. If you use it, go straight to step 3.
- For BYOC, open FAST / Playlist and click Provider settings, then Add your cloud.
- Provider: Google Cloud Run. Label: a name you'll recognise, such as "My GCP project".
- Fill in your project ID, region (default europe-west3), the playout image address we send you and the deployer service account key (JSON).
- Optional: runtime service account, and CPU (1, 2 or 4 vCPU) and memory (for example 1Gi) per channel.
- Tick Default for my account if new channels should run here. Save.
3. Create the channel
- Open FAST / Playlist and go to Create New FAST Channel.
- Enter a channel name and select your playlist.
- Under Run on, choose Onveo Cloud or your own project.
- Create. The channel starts and goes live in a minute or two.
4. Put it on your site
- Click the channel to open its details.
- Copy the embed code into your web page.
- Or use the direct stream URL (master.m3u8) in your own player, app or partner feed.
- Stream preview on the same page shows what viewers see.
5. Run the channel
- Stop ends playout and its compute. Start brings the channel back.
- Restart a running channel to load playlist changes or to recover it.
- Delete removes the channel. Your videos and playlist stay in your library.
- States: Active, Inactive and Error. Stream health, provider details and logs are on the channel page; BYOC channels link to Cloud Logging in your project.
Preparing your Google Cloud project (BYOC)
- Cloud Run APIEnable it in your project
- Deployer service accountGrant roles/run.admin on the project and roles/iam.serviceAccountUser on the runtime account, then create a JSON key
- Runtime service accountRecommended: a dedicated account with no roles. Left blank, the project's default compute account is used
- Playout imageSend us your project number. We give your Cloud Run service agent read access and send you the image address
- RegionAny Cloud Run region; europe-west3 (Frankfurt) is the default
- Cost trackingEach channel service carries onveo-account and onveo-channel labels, so you can filter billing by channel
Keys are stored encrypted and never displayed after saving. To replace a key, paste a new one; leave the field blank to keep the current key.
Troubleshooting
The channel shows Error.
Open the channel page and check Provider reason and the logs, then start it again. If it keeps failing, contact us with the channel name.
"Credentials rejected"
The service account key is wrong, expired or disabled. Paste a new JSON key in Provider settings.
"Project/region not found or Cloud Run API not enabled"
Check the project ID and region, and enable the Cloud Run API in that project.
"Channel limit reached"
Your account is running as many channels as it allows. Stop a running channel, or contact us to raise the limit.
I changed the playlist but the channel didn't.
Restart the channel to load the new order.
Where is on-premise in the menu?
It isn't self-serve. On-premise playout is installed on your servers together with our team — contact us to plan it.
Want help with the first channel?
We can set up your first channel — or your Google Cloud project — with you.
